Government de-validates current Social Welfare Council

  • Accusing the Social Welfare Council (SWC) of not functioning well duet to heavy corruption in it, the government on Wednesday has dissolved it.

     

    A cabinet meeting today took the decision, according to Media Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

     

    Minister Mahara said that the government does not have a plan to immediately re-form the SWC.

     

    The SWC, a government agency for looking after the ethical standards of NGOs, their functions and the way they acquire and mobilize national and international funds, was being criticized for long for its inefficiency and passiveness.

     

    The SWC was also criticized for not being able to monitor and coordinate NGO activities while its post-holders were racing for economic gains.
