  • The Constituent Assembly has given a clear – cut go ahead for scribbling the constitution for the people of the Republic of Nepal. Since the process represents the climax of the People’s Movement II, all political parties which participated in the freedom struggle should put their heads together to produce the highest law for the land. They have to bury their differences – political or otherwise – for finalizing what could be termed the historic act of the citizens of this country.

A very high level of political understanding among the ruling parties, opposition parties and others is the need of the hour for timely and systematic completion of the task as per the wish of Nepalis. Differences among them, if not addressed properly, might not only create series of hurdles in drafting the constitution but also threaten the very democratic framework – the single - most achievement of the Movement.

All members of the elected Constituent Assembly have a collective and individual obligation to fulfill. They have to complete the assignment prescribed by people through votes - direct or indirect - cast in the CA poll. Their efforts to direct the political parties concerned for not allowing differences to disturb in any way the atmosphere of writing a new constitution would be most desirable and welcome. They could guarantee against derailing of the process of building the edifice of the constitution.

If politicos could produce an atmosphere of peace, mutual cooperation and tolerance like the one they created in times after the Movement II and up to the CA poll, the process of scripting the constitution would be comfortably lubricated. The same might produce a document in time and in accordance with the schedule approved by CA. Should any sort of non - cooperative attempt emerge from the political parties in this regard, the vision of the democratic movement in the country would be lost.

Tasks such as laying the bedrock of federal democratic republic, restructuring the state, allocating due place for the army, activating all democratic tools of the state, ensuring inclusive society guaranteeing voice and opportunities for all, transforming the socio economic shape of the country are huge tasks and demand serious input from all – political parties, leaders, civil society, press, activists and others. Any sort of lassitude on the part of any body cannot be tolerated. Politicos! Remember this is the prime time to have a broad sense of service, politics of vision, tolerance and sacrifice and action for the interest of the nation, people and national interest. Contribute to this cause and you will be enhancing the vision of People’s Movement II. The sense of indifference in this regard would betray the mission of the Movement and sacrifice of martyrs.
