Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala is going to address a mass gathering in Birgunj on Saturday.
Koirala, has been leading a nationwide party revival campaign in the light of information that the Nepali Congress factions previously led by himself and the one led by former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba have not psychologically united despite the formal declaration of party unification long ago.
As the Nepali Congress has been known as a historically anti-leftist party since 1950s, Koirala anticipates that could unite his party supporters under the banner of anti-Maoist campaign.
After the emergence of Maoists as the largest political party following the April-10 Constituent Assembly poll, Koirala and his colleague have refused to join the Maoist-led coalition government—many think he might be thinking of reshaping the coalition.
Koirala and other Congress leaders have apparently opposed the idea of army integration. They have frequently voiced that Maoists are not reliable since they have not implemented the past commitments of returning seized properties. |
